Where Shade Rests in Trees

This installation adopts an atmospheric and abstract approach, forming a visually lightweight composition that responds to Oshawa’s rich natural environment and restoring, well-protected ecosystems, where the Great Lakes shoreline meets inland ravine systems, alongside wetlands that are ecologically rare in urban southern Ontario and wildlife corridors that traverse the city.

The contrasting colours of the glass elements, blues and greens alongside oranges and yellows, reflect Oshawa’s dynamic edge conditions: water and land, urban and wild, erosion and growth. At the same time, the transparency of the glass allows natural light from the skylight to pass through, casting vivid, coloured shadows. These shifting light patterns evoke the warmth and intimacy of shared moments, reminiscent of sunlight filtered through tree canopies, where soft bokeh flickers across the ground like traces of memory.
